My parents’ wedding: the ceremony

(Video of the entire ceremony at the end!) Bright and early on Tuesday morning, we headed over to the church for my parents’ wedding. For those not following along so far, my mom has memory loss and lives in memory care. She forgot she was married to my dad, so I suggested they get married! They ended up picking a beautiful historic church to get married in, and we had about 15 people in attendance. Some friends and family even traveled to attend the wedding.

Before the wedding started, we hung around talking with the guests. Everyone loved Felix’s outfit for the occasion, which was a 4-legged suit with black pinstripe pants, a white shirt, and suspenders. I was wearing a blue dress with a sequin top and chiffon on the bottom. The pictures below show us all talking before the wedding started.

Once everyone arrived, we got started. Georgia, my mom’s college friend, was the matron of honor. She walked down the aisle solemnly. My mom and dad followed next. My mom was wearing a lacy periwinkle blue dress with a white sweater over it, white gloves, my wedding veil in her hair, and a bouquet of blue and purple flowers. My dad was wearing a black suit with a navy blue tie of the Unicorn Tapestry.

Brad got great pictures of everyone going down the aisle to the front of the church.

We started the ceremony, and I was the officiant. I was in my wheelchair in front of the platform at the front of the church. My parents stood on the platform facing the congregation. We had some words from me, a reading from the Bible from Georgia, and lead-singing by mom’s friend Yoko accompanied by the organist, Garrett.

Next it was time for the vows, ring exchange, and the kiss. My parents were very cute during this time, with lots of happy and funny facial expressions and little comments here and there throughout. They were having a great time!

Afterwards, my parents were happy to walk down the aisle, greet guests, and sign the license I got for them.

Brad got a couple pictures of the rings in a mirrored platform he created with a blue-filtered flash through a translucent “Swiss cheese” partition. They are stunning! He planned ahead and took these ring shots while we were hanging out in my mom’s room after the rehearsal.

And now here is the 17-minute video of the ceremony!

My next blog entry will cover the reception, so stay tuned!
