Our fourth full day in Helen, GA, we started off by taking portraits on the porch! Brad set up his camera, and we all posed for some pretty and some goofy pictures. I am wearing a pink floral strapless dress. Felix is a sable and white Japanese Chin in my arms. Brad is wearing a green suit, and Tam is (surprise!) wearing a blue tie dye top! We have pictures of us smiling, some of us laughing, some of us holding hands, some silly ones, and one of us pretending like we’re the see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil monkeys.
We went out to lunch at a Thai restaurant that had probably the best Thai food I’ve ever eaten! It was SO GOOD! We promised we’d be back, though we ended up never making it back.
Next we headed to the thing Brad was most excited about this trip– face jugs! Face jugs are jugs that potters have sculpted faces onto before they fire them. They have a long history, and Brad has always been fascinated by them. We have a few, and the Folk Pottery Museum the next town over had a whole special exhibit on them!
We watched a video in the museum, and learned about the history of folk pottery in the area. Brad got some good pictures of us exploring and a lot of interesting pottery and face jugs on the way.
We got a short video of Felix and me exploring some of the face jugs, as well! It is below.
After the face jugs, we went to the gift shop. They had a lot of great folk art in there, but I fell in love with a purple pottery jewelry set with a necklace, earrings, and ring. Tam was kind enough to get them for me! They are really gorgeous, and I’m very happy with them.
The pottery museum didn’t take too long, so we decided to spend the rest of our afternoon finishing up exploring downtown Helen. We found a shop of Dutch Imports that was really fun, and several other nice shops along the way.
I was in the mood for ice cream, so when we saw a sign for handmade ice cream, we were so in! It was a pet friendly place, so I could have Felix on my lap while I ate. And boy did I eat! I got a waffle cone with one scoop of Jack Daniel’s Toffee ice cream, and one scoop of Banana Pudding ice cream. It was so tasty! Tam got a strawberry cheesecake ice cream milkshake. It was such a nice treat. I did manage to get ice cream all over my face, though!
We went down to the end of the strip, back to the stores we had visited yesterday and had to leave. We were able to get the $2 mermaid wallet I had wanted, as well as thank the woman from Helen Huggables for her assistance the day before with the mean lady wanting her daughter to pet Felix. Before we left, we got some selfies of us with Bigfoot!
It was an all around great day, and we came back to the cabin and played our favorite dice game, Farkle, on the porch some more. It was so nice to sit out there and relax.
By that time, we had done everything in Helen, GA that were our top things. My top thing had been the train, Tam’s had been Babyland, and Brad’s was the pottery museum. Of course Babyland ended up being my favorite LOL! So we went to bed unsure of what we’d get up to the next day. Stay tuned to find out how our last day in Helen, GA ended up!
