Walmart and Moe’s videos

Last Monday I took Felix on an outing to Walmart and to Moe’s. I wanted to try setting up my camera a different way. This time I attached the gooseneck thing to one of my rear stabilizers on my wheelchair. This allowed me to get much more of Felix’s body in the video. I was hoping it would also get part of my wheelchair in the video, too, but it wasn’t quite angled the right way for that. I’ll have to keep working on the ideal video setup.

We went to Walmart first. This Walmart had lots of black marks on the floor and little things on the floor, so it was perfect for working on the auto-leave-it. Felix did some great ones as soon as we got into the store! We did two loops around the store and got several videos.

Overall he did really well, but I’ve noticed that he seems to be milking the auto-leave-it training we’re doing by purposefully going towards items even when he’s not interested in them. So in the future, I’m going to be working on rewarding the auto-leave-its he does where he doesn’t even go towards the item much more than the ones where he does go towards that item. I hope to get out to Walmart this week to practice some more.

When I left Walmart, I looked for our van. I’d had to park out in the parking lot because the accessible spots were all full. So I had to double park so we could get the ramp down. I looked and looked for the van, but couldn’t find it! I thought maybe someone stole it, or it got towed because it was double parked.

I really started to panic! Then I remembered I could set off the car alarm and hopefully hear where the van was. So I did, and the sound came from across the parking lot. I headed towards the sound, and realized as I got close that there was another entrance to Walmart! I hadn’t realized it had two entrances and the one I went into was different than the one I came out of! What a huge relief!

After Walmart, we headed to Moe’s, as I still have some free burrito coupons for there. I got a video of Felix going through the door with me in my wheelchair, which he did great at. He was on the floor for the whole time in line, and even while I brought my food over to a table!

He didn’t do great in the salsa bar section of the restaurant because there was salsa all over the floor and he really wanted to sniff it. But other than that, he did great.

I got some video of him lying next to my chair on his rainbow mat to show what that looks like, too.

It was a good outing, and not too long to make us overly tired. Just about 10 or 15 min in the store and about 15 or 20 min in Moe’s.

Below are all the short videos from our outing!
