Some of you might be wondering where I’ve been for the past month. Three weeks ago, Brad’s Aunt Nancy passed away. Nancy was like a second mother to me. I called her and Brad’s cousin Tamara, who lived with her, about every other day. We had game days twice a month and laughed our heads off. She was a true source of light, joy, and happiness in the world. She was always there for me whenever I had any questions or needed advice, and was always giving me support and making me laugh. She will truly be missed in the world by so so many people. I have suffered one of the biggest losses of my life.
In addition, Brad’s cousin Tamara, who is like a sister to me, was in the hospital for two weeks. When it was time for Tamara to come home, we knew she couldn’t be alone, so for now we are staying with her in her home. There are definitely sad times for us as a group, but also a lot of fun times, too. We make ourselves laugh despite our grief and sometimes to spite our grief.
I am so glad we can stay with Tamara. We are so lucky to still have her with us, as she is equally as much a source of joy, happiness, and light as her mom Nancy was. Plus Tamara and I are SO much alike. It’s scary how much alike we are! Poor Brad, lol!
So for the past three weeks, I’ve been busy visiting the hospital, and now settling in to life at Tamara’s house. We’re getting into a routine, but have pretty much stayed home the past week.
We had our first social interaction when our friends Sabrina and Russ stopped by this weekend for lunch, and Russ put together a storage unit Nancy and Tamara had been working on.
When we were visiting the hospital, Felix was always on my lap, so while I’ve been busy with the hospital and settling in at Tamara’s, he hasn’t really been public access training at all for the past 3 weeks. It’s actually been almost a month exactly since his last public access outing.
Today we had to stop by Walgreens to get some supplies. We only needed two things, and had no room in our car for my wheelchair, so I had to walk. I knew I could make it since we’d only be in the store about 5 minutes. So I took Felix and we walked on in. He was PERFECT!!!!!!!
Normally he struggles when I’m walking because he’s used to being on sniff walks when I’m walking and working when I’m in my wheelchair. But he was heeling wonderfully! So I asked Tamara to take a video of us. It is below. Felix is a Japanese Chin wearing a pink vest and I am wearing a pink top and Disney cat leggings.
So enjoy my first video in a long while, and I hope you understand if I don’t post as much in the near future as we are spending most of our time helping Tamara laugh, organize, and deal with her broken heart.
