This morning was supposed to be my first morning back to walking the dogs on my own two legs instead of walking them from my wheelchair. I have now taken four weeks off of walking the dogs! While my hip pain is better, it’s still hurting a little. If I don’t do anything and relax on the couch all day, then it doesn’t hurt at all. But if I go out and do things, even in my wheelchair, my hip starts hurting. At least now it’s a 1–2 on the pain scale instead of a 2–4 on the pain scale.
My rheumatologist told me that if I was still having pain at the end of my time resting my hip, that I needed to get an X-ray and return to see her. The only days this week I could get an X-ray were today, Thursday, and Friday. And I already have things scheduled on Thursday and Friday.
So while I was chatting with Linden this morning, I called the local hospital to see if they were accepting walk-ins for X-rays today, and how busy they were. They said it was nearly empty, and yes they were open.
So I quickly hopped in the shower and headed on over! I brought my wheelchair because you never know how much you’ll have to walk in hospitals. And of course, I had Felix, too!
When I arrived, there was just one person ahead of me in line! So I checked in and sat down in the waiting room. While I was waiting, I got a couple of pictures. One is a selfie of me in a pink and red dress with Felix in a purple vest. I took this picture at the start of our waiting, when Felix was still all interested in what we were doing. We ended up waiting in the waiting area for 30 minutes, and by the end of that time, Felix had decided to take a nap. So I got a picture of him curled up in my lap sleeping!
Then a nurse came to get me to take me back for my X-rays. She was very nice! She brought me back to the X-ray room, and when I got up, I left Felix on the seat of my wheelchair. He is used to staying there while I use the bathroom, so I figured he’d be fine there while I got X-rays, too.
He was perfect! He just lay down and chilled the whole time I was on the table getting X-rayed. The techs were SO impressed with him, and kept telling me how fantastically he was doing. I shared that he had just graduated to being a fully trained service dog a month ago, and they were so happy for him!
The ways I had to hold my hip for the X-rays were a little painful, but I got through it OK.
When I was all done, I went back to Felix and took a picture of him on my chair. He did stand up before I got the picture, but during the whole X-ray series, he was lying down.
We said our goodbyes, and headed out to the car. We left the parking lot almost exactly 45 minutes from the time we arrived in the parking lot! That’s the fastest I’ve ever gotten imaging done at this hospital! Now I know to always go on Saturday mornings in the future!
