Doctors, near death, and panic attack 1   Recently updated!

Boy was yesterday a doozy! Tam woke up early because I had a couple of doctors appointments I wanted her help with.

First we headed to get my abdominal ultrasound to see if my liver hemangioma has grown. Felix is so popular in that office! I let everyone pet him and all the receptionists and nurses were so excited he was back. He really has a fan club there! An elderly lady in the waiting room said I made her day by letting her pet Felix. Felix was happy to oblige LOL!

Tam held Felix while I went to get my ultrasound. I almost fell asleep during the ultrasound, so it was no big deal. Tam said that Felix did very well waiting for me!

As we were walking out to the van (I was walking, not in my wheelchair), we were crossing the parking lot when all the sudden a white SUV backed out suddenly and almost ran right into me! I was almost directly in the middle of the back of his rear windshield, so if he had looked in his rearview mirror at all, he would have seen me. Apparently he didn’t look, though, and just backed up quickly!

Tam saved my life! She was walking next to me and immediately pulled me backwards, while also stepping out of danger herself. She is a quick thinker! I was pretty well useless and just made a really strange wooo-wooo-wooo noise as I tripped over myself backwards out of the way. We weren’t able to get all the way out of the way of the car, and luckily they slammed on the brakes probably an inch or two away from running into me.

Boy did that get our adrenaline flowing! And the driver didn’t even apologize, just drove off!

We tried to calm down as we headed to First Watch for a late breakfast (I had to fast for my test). First Watch is one of my parents’ favorite restaurants, so we figured we’d give it a try.

Service was so slow, and it took forever for us to get seated and get menus. You may remember I just started the FODMAP diet for my nausea, so the menu was extremely overwhelming for me. I was looking things up left and right on my app trying to figure out what I could eat.

Our server arrived, and I asked him about the soup of the day and if it had pasta in it. I had a few other questions about other food items and I felt very pressured to make my order right then. I started to panic (though I couldn’t tell I was panicking at the time, Tam sure could tell), and Felix immediately got up. He had been sitting in my wheelchair seat next to me. He started pawing at me, trying to get over to me. So I sent the server away to find the answers to my questions, and Felix immediately hopped over into my lap, climbed up on my chest and leaned in hard to give me pressure therapy.

That’s when I realized I was about to hyperventilate and was this close to a full blown panic attack. I got my meds out, took a pill, and Tam took a video of me explaining what had just happened. The video is below.

Luckily Felix was able to calm me down pretty well, and by the time we ordered and our food arrived, I was fairly stable. The food wasn’t great, but it was stuff I could eat so that was good. The service was terrible, and Tam had to send some of her food back… so we were not impressed. But still, we had fun talking together!

We got a few pictures of us after leaving First Watch, fun little selfies! The wind was really blowing, so each one looks pretty different! I am wearing purple, Tam is wearing black, and Felix has a green vest on.

By that time, we only had one hour before the Caring Closet closed! The Caring Closet is run by Hospice and lends out medical equipment to those in need. For my upcoming surgery, I wanted to get forearm crutches and a knee scooter. And Tam wanted to donate a wheelchair.

As we were walking in, we met a woman coming out who asked about our wheelchair. Turns out it was just what she was looking for, so we gave it to her without going through the organization.

Then we went inside and were helped by the most wonderful people! Not only did they let me pick from all their knee scooters and baskets, they also suggested some rails around my toilet so I could get up and down from the toilet easier! They had a brand new one they gave to us. They didn’t have any forearm crutches, but I will go back next week to see if any have come in.

It was SUCH an amazing organization! Everyone there was amazing, and I think I might volunteer there someday! We got a few pictures of me with my new black knee scooter with red pouch on the front, a closeup of me smiling, and of Tam holding Felix while I tested the knee scooters.

Next we headed to Tractor Supply to get some shelled peanuts for Brad’s bird photography. When we arrived, we saw they had turned one of the disabled access aisles for parking into a cart corral! We had to get a picture of that!

We got our bird stuff at Tractor Supply, and found my favorite lollipops for only 99 cents, so we stocked up!

By that time, we were cutting it close to my eye appointment. I have to get my eyes checked every 6 months because of a medication I’m on. The eye appointment went well, and we determined that I’d probably need new glasses in 6 months when we get me a new prescription.

So I looked at frames and got some cost estimates. Unfortunately my glasses will be very expensive as I have a very high prescription (around -10) so I need triple compressed lenses, I need prisms in my lenses, and for the first time I will also need progressive lenses! So boy do I need to save up over the next few months!!!!!!!!!!

But I did find two frames I like, pictures of them are below. One is purple with some other colors a little bit, and the others are pink.

We were so tired after all that, but we weren’t yet done! We had to do a return at Home Depot, stop by Pet Supplies Plus to get some canned food for Alice, the UPS store to do an Amazon return, and pick up a prescription for Brad. Luckily those last three things are in the same shopping center right next to our house!

We were so beat when we got back to the house! We pretty much collapsed! What a busy busy day, full of lots of stressful experiences. I’m just so glad that Tam was there to share it with me and help me through everything! She is always a ray of sunshine in a stressful day. And Felix helped a lot, too! Especially at First Watch!

Tam seems to be your version of my bestie, Cece. How blessed you are to have her. And way to go Felix at First Watch. I have been there a couple of times and wasn’t all that impressed either.
