Hestia at Urgent Vet   Recently updated!

This afternoon, we noticed that Hestia’s back end was trembling. We thought she might be in pain, and our regular vet doesn’t open until Tuesday, so we rushed her over to Urgent Vet.

It turns out she has a soft tissue injury to her back. Their prices were very high, so we did the minimum to get through the next few days until we can see her regular vet on Tuesday.

Her gums were pale and she has lost a lb in the last 6 months, so they wanted to do a red blood cell count, and a kidney test to see if they could give her an NSAID medicine.

While she was back there, they gave her an opioid shot which made her very very drugged. She is also on crate rest for the foreseeable future. Her red blood cell came back low but not super low, so we need to get that re-checked. Everything else in her bloodwork was OK.

They sent her home with gabapentin and carprofin (an NSAID) to control pain, and we will see her regular vet on Tuesday for X-rays and a full senior blood panel.

Poor Hestia, she is very drugged and won’t eat so she can’t take her NSAID. I’m hoping in a few hours she’ll be less high and be able to eat dinner and take her meds.

And our poor pocketbook! The Urgent Vet cost about $500, and I’m expecting about the same with X-rays and bloodwork etc at our regular vet on Tuesday.

We got two pictures of drugged Hestia, once with me and once with Tam. Hestia is looking very drugged in the pictures, and we are looking sad.
