Glamour headshots gone sideways: just the dogs

For the last blog entry in the series, you get to see the stars of the show—just the pups!

We start out with a few pictures of what our setup for them looks like. We have set up in our living room a taupe backdrop with an orange light coming from below. There is a big light with a soft box (the big black thing) that directs the light onto the subjects. There is also a curved reflector below to shine the light up from below. There is a table in front of the backdrop with a wood-grain tablecloth on it.

Felix has had some trouble with the table in the past, so we tried to make it very clear where the edges of the table were, and we had the table lowered so if he fell off, it wouldn’t be so bad. Luckily he was OK while he was up there, though he wouldn’t move around or sit down! So Felix is standing in all of the pictures!

Hestia and Alice are old hands at getting photographed on tables, so they were totally into it. Especially for all the treats involved! One time the treat Hestia was eating fell out of her mouth and onto the floor, and she launched herself to go get it. Boy was I glad the table was low for that! Silly Hestia thinks she can fly!

We start out with a picture of Hestia on the table alone to get the lighting right. Then I added the sables and there are a few pictures of me giving everyone treats.

At first all the pictures have the dogs looking to the side where I was standing with the treats. But after a while I trusted them to stay enough so I could get behind the soft box and be next to Brad. So then they look like they’re looking into the camera!

Enjoy!
