Yesterday we celebrated Valentine’s Day! Brad and I have never really celebrated holidays before, but Tam LOVES holidays so we’re getting used to celebrating them with her. This is our first Valentine’s Day together as a family of three (a year ago Tam was still in the hospital).
When we woke up, I really wanted to open presents. Tam wanted to wait, but I was really excited so they took pity on me and we opened presents first thing! I got Tam a necklace with a heart and an infinity symbol and a cubic zirconia. I got Brad three part matching necklaces that says Weirdo #1, Weirdo #2, and Weirdo #3 for all of us to share. I am Weirdo #3! Brad wrote us a poem and got Tam a box of fake chocolates (she LOVES fake food!). Tam wrote us cute cards with coupons for a meal out for each of us, and she got a hand carved pure marble statue of three hearts for our table decorations, and she got Brad and me a bunch of fun snack foods. She also got me a new mug that says “Lucky Girl” on it with dice since we like to play Farkle so much. I have been wanting a new large mug, and this one is perfect! She also took us out to lunch!
We decided to go to lunch at Tandoor which is a local Indian restaurant. Tam and I had been there before several months ago and got great food and great service. So we wanted to take Brad since we all love Indian food. We got seated, and the waiter brought us a pitcher of water, but no glasses. We had to ask for glasses. When our food arrived, it did not arrive at the same time. Tam’s shrimp were overcooked, didn’t have any sauce, and had barely any veggies. The naan we ordered looked like instead of taking one nan and cutting it into four parts, they cut a half a naan into four parts. So we didn’t even get all the bread we ordered. The waiter never once checked on us until we were totally done eating!
When he finally did check on us, Tam said she wasn’t happy with her food, that the shrimp was overcooked. The waiter replied that she hadn’t told him how well she wanted her shrimp done! Um, that’s not a thing!
Then he came with the bill. It was on an electronic device and he just sped through the bill so we couldn’t see the charges. So we had to have him back up and show us the itemized bill. It was more expensive than we thought it would be, due to extra service fees. Then the waiter just stood there while Tam paid, and watched her closely as the tip screen appeared. A good waiter would leave and let you select the tip by yourself. But this waiter just stood there staring at the screen. So Tam selected skip.
When the waiter left, we were all so upset, and we couldn’t decide on a tip. Tam didn’t want to tip at all, but Brad and I said we should tip something. So Tam left $5. And we will not be back.
When we got home, Brad remarked that the waiter only once looked at Brad, and seemed uncomfortable around him, too. So that wasn’t a good experience. Sigh. Too bad because we were so excited to have a close by Indian restaurant.
Here are the pictures we took at the restaurant. Brad is wearing a pink suit and red shirt. I am wearing a cinnamon pink sequin dress. And Tam is as usual wearing black. We have pictures of the food, which were two curries and tandoori shrimp and a bread basket.
When we got home, we had a much better time than we had at the restaurant. We played two games of Mexican Train Dominoes, and I won both games! That was fun, though I got unreasonably mad at Brad for blocking my moves.
Then we tried to watch a romantic movie, but each of us picked a movie that was bad, and we only watched about 20 minutes of each movie. Eventually it was news time, and after that we finished the new Naked Gun movie. Overall it was a good day, even though the restaurant was a blip in the day. I’m sure next year’s Valentine’s Day we’ll have a much happier experience!
