Tam gave the three of us a really wonderful Christmas present this year! We all got coordinating tattoos!
At first, we were trying to decide on one tattoo that all three of us could get. But we couldn’t agree and no one loved anything we were finding. So instead we decided to each pick one thing we really wanted a tattoo of, and all three of us got tattoos with aspects of all those things.
I picked a fairy, Brad picked a horned owl, and Tamara picked a locking clock. I got a fairy with long brown hair, in a purple dress, holding a key to Tam’s locking clock, with an owl flying by. Tam got a locking clock in the middle of her arm with an owl head peeking above it and an angel (she sees me more as an angel than a fairy) below. And Brad so far only has an owl, but in a few days will be adding a fairy holding a key.
We got these done a few weeks ago, so now they are pretty much healed up. And we have announced them to our families, so we can finally make a blog entry about it!
Our tattoo artist is a true artist, meaning he has no concept of time and is a bit of a procrastinator LOL. So each day, our sessions were supposed to start at 10AM. But he would always text the night before to move them to starting at noon. Then he’d show up at 12:30-1PM, and only THEN would he start designing our tattoos (even though we’d had a consult a month before). This is apparently common for tattoo artists.
That meant that we usually didn’t get started tattooing until about 3PM. For Brad’s and Tam’s tattoos, which were 7-8 hours, that meant it was really late at night when they were done. Tam has night blindness, and we knew Brad wouldn’t be able to drive after sitting for a tattoo all day, so that meant I was the chauffeur– up to NODA which is about 45 min away with no traffic!
Since we had dogs at home, someone had to stay home with them each day. So the first day was Brad’s tattoo. Tam stayed with him to help him in case he needed it (she’s had a few tattoos before). I dropped them off and picked them up. Brad was cool as a cucumber and just read the entire time!
Tam’s tattoo was next, and she wanted to just zone out, so I dropped her off alone and picked her up afterwards. She almost fell asleep twice!
My tattoo was third, and Tam came with me and we chatted the whole time! My tattoo was only 5 hours, so I had an easier time. And I only took two breaks– one to get my ears pierced (the original holes closed up during a depressive episode), and another to eat fresh empanadas that an employees dad made.
I didn’t bring Felix with me any of the times because I knew he would not be happy with the loud music and tattoo guns, nor would he be happy having to be still and quiet for so many hours at a time. We ended up having a great time with the employees there, chatting a lot and sharing stories about our lives.
And though dealing with a true artist was an experience, his art is WELL worth it! We may of all gotten bitten by the tattoo bug, though!
Below is a picture of the three of our tattoos together. Enjoy!
