(pictures below) This year LYCOS is doing a benefit walk for NAMI! As part of the walk, there will also be art. There will be an interactive cube set up, and also displayed will be decoupage styrofoam heads.
Today we got to be the first group to do the heads! First we had our regular NAMI meeting which was pretty good. Then a bunch of consumers and friends and family got together to make heads. There were 11 of us I believe.
We started with styrofoam heads from a wig store. We used glue and water to put on a background and also put on words that meant something about our mental health.
For mine, I chose two papers that had the same design but were different colors. I ripped the paper into smaller pieces and glued them onto the head. They represented the two poles of my bipolar disorder.
Then I got some words and sentence fragments that had been already cut out and put a few of them on my head. It was really good looking and I’m proud of how mine turned out. I am actually proud of all of them! Each person told a different story about mental illness with their head. It was really cool!
Unfortunately I only had my cell phone with me, so I only got cell phone quality pictures. I’ll have to go to the exhibit and take pictures with a real camera.
We had a lot of fun! Here is a link to all the pictures, and I have the top 4 below.

A close up of my head. It has pink and orange paper with the same patterns. There are words and phrases glued on top, and even some pictures of DNA on a gel!
