We have officially decorated our house for our first family of three Christmas! Brad and I haven’t decorated for any holiday in YEARS. Tam loves Christmas decorations, but is used to putting them up after Thanksgiving. We figured we wanted to enjoy the decorations for more than just a month, so we would put them up the first day we could– the day after Halloween!
We wanted to make a new tradition just for us, and we did! Originally we were going to make mulled wine and bake cookies while listening to Christmas music and decorating. But the spices for mulled wine were more expensive than the alcohol that went in it! And then Tam wisely realized we probably wouldn’t want to be baking while decorating, so she bought some cookies. I’m glad we made those decisions, because boy was decorating a LOT of work!
In fact, it was so much work that we didn’t even get done on the 1st! We decorated into today (the 2nd). We had a lot of fun deciding where everything would go and sharing Christmas memories and listening to Christmas music that Brad DJed. In the end, we finally got everything done and are so happy with the result!
All three of the main rooms of the house are decorated– the kitchen/back room (which we treat as our front door), the TV room, and the front room. We have lights in all three rooms and lots of Santas and Christmas guinea pigs and other decorations.
Check out our video of it here!
The first take of this video was quite the blooper! I misidentified trees, forgot decorations, misidentified shelving, and said I painted a “thing” before I dissolved into laughter! Here’s that video for your viewing pleasure.
I also got a picture that shows the lights in all three rooms of the house. It is so pretty here at night! Hestia is front and center of the picture.

We are looking forward to a fun and beautiful holiday season. From our house to yours, Happy Holidays!

Awesome. I am hoping to start on mine soon
