Feeling like I’m back in college   Recently updated!

It’s funny, what is one of the most challenging times of my life with my health and family stuff going on, is also one of the most fun times of my life thanks to my new living situation.

For those who don’t remember, Brad and I moved in with his cousin Tamara after her mom passed. Tam is about our age, and we all three have disabilities. We figured that living together, we could all help each other with the things we struggle with and support each other. And boy have we!

Amid all the hard times, the tears over those we’ve lost or are in the process of losing, and the stress of moving and chronic health problems, we’ve been starting a whole new life– and it’s a really fun life!

I feel like we’re back in college, living in the dorms again. Brad even says he feels more “loosey goosey” and is more willing to try new things and be a little more relaxed about our life.

We are spending a lot of time playing games, having fun enjoying our moonshine that we recently got, and talking all the time. We laugh until we cry frequently.

Tam’s infectious happiness and joy have made Brad and me happier people, and have led Brad to be more accepting of things I’ve wanted to do for a while.

For example, Tam wanted to dye her hair red, so I figured it’d be the perfect time to dye my hair my favorite color I’ve ever had my hair, which is lavender. So this weekend we dyed each others’ hair. Of course I’ve had to sleep on the couch since, but I think tonight I might be allowed back in the bedroom (due to the smell of the hair dye bothering Brad).

We are really having a great time together, and I feel very happy and free most of the time. We do have a lot of hard times that we share, but they are offset by the wonderful support and laughter we give each other.

I’ve been telling people I feel like I’m in my 20s again, or back in college. Every day with Tam and Brad is a fun adventure, full of laughter and support (and sometimes tears). It’s one of the hardest times in my life, but also one of the happiest, most fun, and most rewarding.

Here are a couple of pictures of Tam and me with our freshly dyed hair, and a picture of Brad all dressed up in black and gold finery.
