So I love my Whill C2 wheelchair. It is a great chair and really off roads well and is very comfortable. But it is also quite heavy. Three of the 5 parts weigh between 30-40 lbs and so I’ve been not taking it with me when I go out with Brad because I don’t want to lift it in and out of the van. That’s not good for my stress fractured feet (which now need an MRI because they aren’t healing), or my hips etc.
So I figured I might look and see if there’s been new technology in the past three years since I got my wheelchair. And there is! They now make folding wheelchairs where the whole chair weighs 33 lbs without the battery and 38 lbs with the battery. And I can fold it up and roll it into the van next to Brad’s wheelchair so it will be much easier for me to take it out when Brad is with me.
It will also be easier to fit it into my parents’ trunk and Tamara’s trunk. That’s a great bonus, as it is really really hard to get my chair in and out of my parents’ car so I hardly use my chair when I’m with them. This will be a lot easier.
I will still use my Whill C2 when I am going out alone in the van and can just drive it in and out of the van. But I will use this one when I am going out with Brad or with someone who doesn’t have a big car.
I ordered it just two days ago and it was delivered today! It was 15% off for labor day, so I couldn’t pass up the sale. And my dad just gave Brad and me our birthday and xmas money for this year, so we were able to afford it. Thank you Brad for giving me your birthday and xmas money!!!!!
Anyway, here are three videos of me in the new chair.
Overall I’m pretty happy with it. It definitely is not as powerful as the Whill and is not as good at going over rough surfaces. But it handles them well enough to be useful. I have to go over bumps more straight than in the Whill, it drives a bit differently than the Whill, and it doesn’t have underseat storage so I will have to use a backpack instead of fairy wings.
It is more comfortable than I expected, even without the seat cushion. But to have a dog on my lap, I’ll need a box under my feet so my lap isn’t sloped downwards causing my dog to slide off.
Overall for the reason I got it, I’m pleased. It’s definitely not as good a chair as the Whill, but I’ll be able to use it a lot easier when I go out with Brad and on trips where we have a lot of luggage.
