Last week, Brad, Tam, and I went to Hilton Head Island to meet my parents for a vacation! We had a great time together!
On the first night, everyone was really tired, so we just ate dinner in the hotel lobby. Plus it was Father’s Day and all the restaurants were super crowded. We were practically the only ones in the hotel lobby!
The next morning, my parents had to listen to a presentation about timeshares. They did not buy one, spoiler alert! So Brad, Tam, and I went shopping at a little shopping area close to the hotel.
We met up with them for a tasty lunch at The Sandbar. We hung out for a while in the hotel room chatting and remembering old fun times we’d had as a family. Pictures of The Sandbar are below! In one of them, I am giving Felix an ice cube to lick because it was really hot and we were sitting outside.
We went back to the hotel room to hang out for a bit, but mom wasn’t feeling up for much, so she and dad left to go back to their place. Brad, Tam, and I went to Aloha Al’s to get dinner (Brad’s favorite place in Hilton Head). They have açai bowls and similar things there.
Next we headed to the beach for a photo shoot! We got some pictures of Tam and me on a tree, and then set up a tripod and light stand to get pictures as far as wheelchairs could go on the beach. We got some great ones!
The next morning, my parents wanted to go to one of their favorite breakfast spots—First Watch. It was all the way in Bluffton (off the island), so we headed that direction. Luckily it didn’t take too long to get there. We had a good breakfast and good conversation. My mom was in a really good mood, so that was a lot of fun!
We tried to do a few things in Bluffton afterwards, but it was really early so almost nothing was open. The Gullah museum was closed even though they said they opened at 9AM. We still went to a new bakery there, and had some fun looking at the buildings.
So we went to the Heyward House, which is the official welcome center for Bluffton. Unfortunately, their wheelchair ramp was not so accessible!!!!! There was a huge lip to get on the wheelchair ramp. My dad and I were able to pick up my wheelchair and get it on the ramp. But there was no way we could pick up Brad’s!!!
Luckily they had some scrap wood lying around and were able to make a ramp out of that so Brad could visit the house. My mom was just not interested, and halfway through the tour decided she wanted to go back to her room and take a nap. So she and my dad left. Brad, Tam, and I finished the tour and it was really interesting! There were lots of neat older things like pictures, knick knacks, clothing, and everyday items in the historic house.
Since Brad, Tam, and I weren’t done seeing the sights, we decided to head to the Coastal Discovery Museum. On our way there, we passed a farmer’s market, and had a lot of fun there. We got some peaches, some caramel corn, some flavored nuts, and saw some cute toilet paper and poop keychains!
Then we went to the Coastal Discovery Museum. It’s a nice little museum, and they had a display of photography of bees there. It was really cool! My favorite part was Myrtle the Turtle who swam around in a tank. Unfortunately the best part of the museum is the grounds outside and it was too hot to be there! But it was still cool to visit the indoors parts of the museum.
When we arrived back to the hotel, mom and dad called and said mom wanted to come over for a swim on our rooftop pool! Unfortunately mom got a little confused about appropriate swimwear, and so ended up wearing long underwear to swim in. But it all worked out! I had a lot of fun getting in the water with my mom even though she thought the very warm water was very cold. But we had a great time while walking and sitting in the water. And Brad, Tam, and my dad had a good time relaxing with the rooftop breezes.
For dinner we tried out this Italian restaurant called Nunzio’s. It had been recommended to my parents by the person trying to sell them the timeshare. It was EXCELLENT!!!! Wow, the service was great and the food was, too! We had such a great time eating and talking and laughing.
The next morning, we started out at First Watch again, and it was again very tasty! We decided to head to the beach before it got too hot. There was one beach with a boardwalk and a pavilion that was wheelchair accessible, so we went to that one. We had a really fun time watching everyone go past us to the beach. My mom had something to say about almost everyone who passed. It was really really funny!
We decided to go back to the hotel and go swimming again, which we didn’t get any pictures of. My mom had an actual bathing suit on this time, though! Then we had some snacks in the room for an early light lunch, so that we could get to Nunzio’s again at 4PM when they opened.
Our server this time wasn’t as great as our server the last time, and mom was in a bad mood, so it wasn’t as magical of an experience. But the food was still really really good! No pictures, sorry!
Brad, Tam, and I went back to the hotel and played Farkle (a dice game), while my parents went home to sleep. I fell asleep early, too! Unfortunately Tam didn’t have a good morning the next morning and was feeling really ill. So we skipped breakfast with my parents, and hung out with Tam while she recovered.
Then we drove home and picked up Hestia and Alice from the boarding place. Boy were they happy to see us!
It was a very busy vacation, but also very fun! I am looking forward to seeing my parents again soon, and vacationing with Brad and Tam when we can be on our own schedule!
Gosh, it looks like everyone was having such a great time. You all dress so cute every day. I love it! What a good memory to have. Tanks for sharing. I looked at the picture like 6 times. So fun.
Love ya, Tami and River
