Spinster spins and grins at Chin 3

Today Brad and I had a little date.  We had a gift certificate to Southern Salads here in Rock Hill, so we tried them out.  We both got salads and were disappointed that the salads weren’t really all that unique or great.  It seems like most people who go to that restaurant get sandwiches.

Then we headed over to Historic Brattonsville!  There is an event happening there on Sept 8th that we are interested in attending, so we went to check out accessibility.  When we went to NYC, we bought a museum membership that is reciprocal with a lot of museums across the US.  So we can get into Brattonsville for free!

We started off in the visitors center, and tried to watch their introductory movie.  But it didn’t have captions and I couldn’t understand anything they said.  So we skipped the movie.  Then we went on a walk that taught us about different fights that happened there in the revolutionary war.  It was a nice short walk, and because Brad had a power chair, he could go on the trails which were gravel.  The only problems were when there were roots sticking up, but his chair was able to handle it all pretty well.

Then we went to the 18th century area of Brattonsville and met a really awesome museum interpreter.  She was spinning wool inside one of the houses.  I went in to see the place, but Brad couldn’t go in because they didn’t have a ramp.  So on her own, the young woman came outside and hung out to talk with us.  It was really cool, she was a great interpreter and knew the answer to every question we asked.  We talked a lot about knitting, fabrics, the “racy” way that women in the area dressed at the time to keep cooler, and so on.

We explored more of the 18th century area, but Hestia was really starting to get overheated.  I was carrying her with cool packs wrapped around her, and she was panting really hard.  So we decided that since we can get in for free, we would come back another day and do the 19th century area.  We hurried up and got Hestia in the car with AC and water.  We blasted the AC until she was a pupsicle!  Even though it only got into the low 90s for the temperature, with the humidity it felt like 100 degrees out.  So we will come back when it is cooler and we don’t have to worry about Miss Hestia.

We got a few pics, here they are!

Veronica with her hair in a braid down the left side of her head, wearing the blue butterfly dress and red shoes. Hestia is wearing her new purple vest and chilling out on the ground at Veronica's feet. Farther in the background, there is life-sized blue metal soldier cutout kneeling and aiming a musket.

A rare picture with Brad! He is wearing a neat Indian shirt and his blue cooling vest. We are in front of the house where the interpreter was working.
