I’ve written up the Ollie and bananas story many times for the PSDP listserv, so I thought I’d put it in my blog so everyone can share in the funny story!

It all started when Ollie was a baby puppy.  Somehow (I think he was cooperating with the cat) he got a banana off of the kitchen table, and he had eaten half of it (peel included!) before I went to investigate the surprisingly quiet puppy lol!

So he has loved bananas for a very long time.  He doesn’t usually get bananas because they aren’t really a species appropriate food, plus I LOVE bananas and don’t want to have to share them with him he he he!

Anyway, I love bananas so much that I routinely buy about 15 lbs of bananas, split them up the middle into thirds, and dehydrate them using Chanda’s old and totally awesome dehydrator.  They make a great dessert!

Now that we know Brad is allergic to bananas (even the particulates from dehydrating!), I have to dehydrate my bananas in the garage so he is not affected.  So I was in our kitchen, prepping trays for the dehydrator.  I had two trays done (each tray holds 3 lbs) and in the dehydrator, which was sitting on the floor in the garage (we can’t put a car in the garage because no room for the ramp).

After a while of prepping the third tray, I realized that doggies were unnaturally quiet and not bothering me about bananas.  Well by doggies I mean Ollie.  So I looked around for him, and found him in the garage with his entire head stuck inside the dehydrator, chowing down on bananas!  It was so funny!  I really wanted to get a picture of that poodle butt sticking out of the dehydrator, but I was so shocked I said “Ollie!” and he turned to look at me.

He had eaten almost a whole tray of bananas!  He was looking very pleased with himself, and looked at me as if he were saying “I need a refill on this tray of bananas!”  I was upset at him, but nothing was funnier than the pleased yet still hungry look on his face!  Luckily he did not get ill, but I now have to keep the door to the garage closed when I am prepping bananas because he has tried to sneak in and steal more bananas since then!  What Ollie wouldn’t do for a banana!

Video I made on how to dehydrate bananas so you have a visual if you want it!
