Today we went to the grocery store (Publix) and got flu and tetanus shots while we did our grocery shopping!
We got there only a little after 9AM when they opened, but there were already 4 people ahead of us in line. Luckily we had to do some grocery shopping which took exactly the amount of time we had to wait before getting our shots!
Hestia was PERFECT in the store! Unfortunately Brad wasn’t doing well, so we weren’t able to get a video, but she was heeling perfectly throughout the whole store with no treats and no reminders from me to stay in position. She’s really turned into a great service dog! It’s hard to remember those days when we were struggling so much with heeling!
When we got to checkout, I had the same bagger I had last time I went to the store. This individual said some things about my disability that were extremely hurtful to me last time. So this time when he asked about my disability I was able to say “I’d rather not talk about my disability”. I was so proud of myself for sticking up for myself and not letting the badness happen again!
Then we headed over to the pharmacy and got our shots. The pharmacist was very nice and efficient. Hestia was interested in what was going on! We were happy to be on our way afterwards with two $10 gift certificates for getting our flu shots there!
Brad did manage to get some pictures of me waiting in line at the pharmacy and then of me getting my shots. I got some pics of him getting his shot, too. In the picture I am a woman with long brown curly hair wearing Japanese Chin leggings and a pink top. I have a galaxy mask on that matches Hestia’s galaxy vest. She is a small white and black dog with a smushed nose and googley eyes. Brad is a slight man in a power wheelchair wearing a salmon shirt, a purple hat, purple mask, and green scarf.
Good for you on standing up for yourself. Congratulations on getting your flu shots. I’m going tomorrow. Love your leggings!

Great job, Hestia! And good job Veronica and Brad on getting your flu shots (and your tetanus shot, Veronica!)! I got my flu shot on Monday. My mom and I got them without having to leave our car! We had an appointment-only drive up flu shot station at our doctor’s office. It was really weird, but much better than having to wait in a crowded waiting room and risking getting sick. Mom drove up, and we had to fill out forms on clipboards from the car. We had to answer a bunch of questions verbally, as well, then when they were ready, they opened our car doors and gave us the shots. We had to stick around for maybe 10 to 15 minutes to make sure we didn’t have a reaction to the shots, then we were allowed to leave. We had masks on, too, of course.
I’m glad you are being good role models and posting your flu shot experience! People really need to go out and get their flu shots, for herd immunity and to reduce the severity of the flu if you do get it. You showed you could look good while promoting health!
