Today Brad and I went on a date to the Farmers Market! It has been really hot recently, so we left the house early at 7:30 AM! Those who know our sleep schedules know this was highly irregular. The Farmer’s Market opens at 8AM and we wanted to get there early.
We got there early and there were several accessible spaces open…. but none (even the taken ones) were van accessible with the hash marks next to them. So we had to double park way in the back and set out cones.
The Farmers Market was SO much fun! All these beautiful fruits and veggies, interesting people, great smells and tastes! We had a great time! We bought blueberries, cherries, plums, cheese, jam, tea, and of course peaches. For Hestia we bought some raw food! It is cheaper than we can buy in the store here, and made from locally raised and grown stuff. We also saw Brad’s parents’ friends Bruce and Lynn, and someone from the Charlotte Dog Training Club!
I am having a high pain time now, so we stuck to fruit mostly because I didn’t think I’d be up for chopping up a bunch of veggies tonight. Even though there were lots of people passing out samples of pastries, I was good and didn’t even try them!
Speaking of good, Hestia was pretty good, too! At first she was a bit distracted, but she settled in. By the second building (there are three open air warehouses) she was walking past floors littered with bits of fruits and veggies without any problem. Several people noticed her Harry Potter themed vest! One woman said that her sister has a service dog and she had never seen patches as cool as ours, so we told her where she could get some for her sister 🙂
Brad took loads of pictures! I will describe each picture in the caption, as there are way too many (like 22 or something!) for me to describe them in the text and have it make any sense he he! Enjoy!
Veronica, a white woman with long brown curly hair wearing an orange and pink dress, talks with the tea maker who has lots of differently colored pots of tea on his bench. Hestia stands next to Veronica very nicely.
Veronica with Hestia, a small black and white dog wearing a yellow and black Hufflepuff themed vest.
Hestia laying down in front of the dog food table, hoping for someone to drop something 🙂
Hestia looking up, this shot shows her face from below, so you can see her white chin and chest, yellow collar, and black ears.
A closeup of the peaches! You can see the fuzz on the individual peaches!
Heriloom tomatoes! The center one is green and orange, the rest are various shades of red.
More heirloom tomatoes
A closeup of a blackberry. It is a compound fruit, with lots of individual fruits together in a berry. You can see the stamens on most of the individual fruits, and water droplets shining on them.
Blackberries from further away. They look like normal blackberries 🙂
More blackberries, this time with some red fruits in the background.
Closeup of cherries. They are bright red and very shiny.
Some small plums, they are red and a little bigger than the cherries. They were very soft, so we have to eat these first!
Green (uncooked) peanuts in turquoise paper containers.
Hestia looking up (at Veronica who is not in the picture) with the business of the farmers market all around.
Eggplant all purple and shiny.
Some sort of spiney cucumber type thing. I have no idea what it is, but it is green and has lots of spines and bumps all over it. It is roughly cucumber in overall shape.
Veronica purchasing cheese. Hestia is tired and laying down in front of Veronica.
Veronica paying for the cheese, with Hestia in the same position.
Yes, we did buy this many blueberries! We have a small bucket of them, and I am smiling big while holding my bucket of blueberries!
Big piles of cucumbers and peas. They are almost as tall as my head!
On our way out, the tea man offered me more tea! So of course I got a second sample!
